The First Disciples

John 1:30-32 NKJV:

30 This is He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ 31 I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water.” 32 And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him.

Isaiah 40:3 NKJV:

The voice of one crying in the wilderness: “Prepare the way of the Lord; Make straight in the desert A highway for our God.

Mark 1:1-2 NKJV:

The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in the Prophets: “Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You.” “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; Make His paths straight.’ ”

John 1:36-38 NKJV:

36 And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, “Behold the Lamb of God!”
37 The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. 38 Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, “What do you seek?”

John 1:37 HOLMAN: “The two disciples heard him say this and followed Jesus.”

John’s Mother Elizabeth is a close relative of Mary mother of Jesus. When Mary visited Elizabeth the baby leaped in her womb and was filled by the Holy Spirit and began prophesying over Mary (Luke 1:39-45). Elizabeth knew that the Lord is conceived in the Mary’s womb revealed by the Holy Spirit. Mary hasn’t told anything to her yet.

John claims that he doesn’t know Him who is to come and he began preparing the way of the Lord and baptizing people in the Jordan river preaching about repentance.

Mark 1:7-8 NKJV: And he preached, saying, “There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose. I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

Jesus did not stop what John was doing and Jesus Himself allowed him to baptize Him in the river. John confirmed that it was Jesus when the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus in the form of a dove and Then a voice came from heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Mark 1:11)
